Project history: Iron hulled ships with ram, sheathed and coppered and fully rigged. First armoured cruisers in the world. 203mm guns were placed amidships on the upper deck and 152mm guns below the forecastle and poop.
Ship protection: Complete belt was 2.1m high and 152 - 127mm thick. It was covered by flat 25mm deck. 152mm coaming 1.4m high protected engine room hatch.
Modernizations: 1886, General-Admiral: boilers were replaced by 3 double-ended cylindrical ones
