Project history: A steel protected cruiser, sheathed and coppered, with a pronounced ram bow and originally rigged as a barque. 152mm guns were on each side of the upper deck with the end guns in slightly projecting sponsons. For most of the waterline there was a cofferdam filled with coconut fibre.
Ship protection: There was a 63-51mm deck with 76mm CT and 114-76mm engine room hatch glacis, but the 152mm guns had shields only.
