Project history: Project of French engineer Lagagne. Tsesarevich became a prototype of Borodino class. For the first time among the contemporaries she has been equipped by a longitudinal anti-torpedo bulkhead.
Ship protection: Main belt was complete and had 1.83m height, its thickness was 250mm between outer transverse bulkheads of main gun barbettes (tapering to 170mm at lower edge), 160mm fwd from fwd barbette and 170mm aft from aft barbette. Upper belt (1.83m high) had 200mm thickness between inner transverse bulkheads of main gun barbettes, 145mm fwd from fwd barbette and 120mm aft from aft barbette. Main gun turrets had 250mm faces, sides and rears and 63mm roofs, secondary gun turrets had 150mm faces, sides and rears and 30mm roofs. Main gun barbettes had 250mm protection above upper deck and 100mm under it. Secondary barbettes had 127mm protection above upper deck. Funnel uptakes had 19mm protection, CT had 254mm sides and 63mm roof. Flat 50mm upper deck connected with upper edge of upper belt, 40mm main deck at level of main belt upper edge curved near side and formed underwater 40mm longitudinal torpedo bulkhead extended between main gun barbettes.
