Project history: A low freeboard turret ship very similar to the Danish Rolf Krake, but differing in having a partial double bottom. The Smerch was rigged with three pole signal masts.

Ship protection: The hull above water was completely armoured and there was a 25mm deck.

1870: - 2 x 1 - 203/19; + 2 x 1 - 229/14 Krupp SB

1890s: - 2 x 1 - 229/14; + 2 x 1 - 229/19 obr. 1877, 4 x 1 - 87/21 4pdr obr. 1877, 4 x 5 - 37/17 Hotchkiss

Naval service: No significant events.
