Project history: Colonial sloops, officially rated as 2nd class avisos, Portuguese design. They had original flush-deck hull and MAN diesels as main machinery.

Modernizations: 1944, both: - 2 x 1 - 76/50, 4 x 1 - 40/39; + 4 x 1 - 20/70 Oerlikon Mk II/IV, 4 DCT, presumably sonar

1950s, both: - 4 x 1 - 20/70; + 4 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, radar

Naval service: Both ships were converted to survey vessels, Pedro Nunes was finally discarded in 1976 and João de Lisboa in 1966.
