Project history: These submarines were built under Norwegian order in Germany. The contract provided building of four boats, but with the First World War beginning, last submarine (A5) has been requisitioned by Germans and commissioned them under name U0 (later UA). Successful for time, but to the beginning of WWII they have ultimately become outdated.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: A2 was captured by Germans in Oslo-fjord at Bulerne island 9.4.1940 and sold by them for scrap. A3 and A4 were scuttled by own crews 15.4.1940 in the Verk-bay (Tönsberg-fjord).
