Project history: ANZAC (MEKO 200 ANZ) design, built for Australia and New Zealand. New Zealand ships originally were to have had two LM-2500 gas turbines and 31.75kts max speed but the starboard turbine was eliminated to save money. Sue to enhanced fuel supply endurance is considerably greater than on sister-ships in other countries. Option for two additional ships to replace Wellington and Canterbury was abandoned in 1997. Superstructures were built in New Zealand.
Modernizations: 2006, both: - Sceptre XL ECM suite; + Centaur ECM suite
2010, Te Kaha; 2011, Te Mana: - 1 x 6 - 20/76; + 1 x 6 - 20/76 Phalanx Mk 15 Block IB
2019, Te Kaha; planned, Te Mana: - 1 x 8 Sea Sparrow SAM, Atlas 9600-M, Sea Giraffe 150HC radars, Centaur ECM suite, 4x Mk 36 mod.1 SRBOC decoy RL, SLQ-25 Nixie torpedo decoy, 9LV453 Mk 3 CCS; + 1 x 32 Sea Ceptor SAM (VLS, 32 CAMM), SMART-S Mk 2, Sharp Eye radars, Elisra ECM suite, Grintek laser detector, Vampir NG e/o system, 4x MASS decoy RL, Sea Sentor torpedo decoy, CMS330 CCS
