Project history: Holland design submarines, built under 1916 programme under drawings of ELCO. Double-hulled. Under original design they should have 75mm gun. As the building has been delayed, it was possible to consider First World War experience. So, they have refused turnable TT provided by design, and by 4m periscopes were lengthened.

Modernizations: late 1920s, all: + 1 x 1 - 12.7/90

Naval service: K VIII was hard damaged 21.12.1941 as a result of battery explosion at Singapore; 15.7.1942 she was stricken and 27.8.1942 sold for BU. K IX was transferred to RAN 22.6.1943, returned 31.5.1944 and later used as a fuel oil barge; 9.6.1945 she was lost as a result of beaching. K Õ was scuttled at Surabaya 2.3.1942.
