Project history: After supported by Venezuela disturbances on belonging to the Netherlands island of Curacao in 1928 Dutch government has made a decision about building of special ship for service in West Indies. New gunboat was been designed on the basis of Flores class, differing in the increased dimensions and machinery power, a little deadened protection and possibility to carry a seaplane.

Ship protection: Ship was protected by 25mm main deck with 50mm slopes. There were no armoured belt.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Johan Maurits van Nassau was sunk by German aircraft in the North Sea W off Den Helder 14.5.1940.
