Project history: Ordered 19.11.1934. Actually ship was repeated Nautilus, from which differed by only details (in particular, number of boilers).

Modernizations: late 1940: - 2 x 1 - 75/52, 1 x 1 - 40/39; + 2 x 1 - 76/40 12pdr 12cwt QF Mk I/II/V, 2 DCR, type 286M radar, sonar

11/1943: - 2 x 1 - 76/40, 2 x 2 - 12.7/90, type 286M radar; + 2 x 1 - 76/50 Mk 20, 6 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 4, type 271 radar

1952: - 2 x 1 - 76/40, 2 x 1 - 20/70; + 1 x 1 - 105/45 SK C/32, 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3

Naval service: In 1950 Jan van Brakel was converted to salvage ship and in 1951-1952 she was modernized, rearmed and reclassified as frigate. She was stricken 1.8.1957 and sunk as a target at atoll Biak.
