Project history: The second series of "Admiralen" type destroyers, built under Yarrow design. They differed from predecessors mainly by boilers with increased steam parameters (25atm instead of 17), fuel stowage increased on 30t and the endurance which has increased at the expense of it.
The main calibre of artillery remained former, but gunss were the Dutch production, of advanced model "Wilton-Fijenoord" No.5. Again only No.1 and No.4 mounts were protected by shields. It was originally supposed to arm the ships by 2 twin 40mm Bofors guns, but as a result they received 4 single 40mm pompoms amidships, and 4 12.7mm Browning MGs.

1940-1941, Witte de With: + type 128 sonar
Naval service: Van Galen 10.5.1940 was sunk by German bombers at Rotterdam. Van Nes 17.2.1942 was sunk by air group of Japanese aircraft carrier Ryujo in Banka Strait. Witte de With 1.3.1942 was hard damaged by Japanese aircraft at Sourabaya and scuttled in the same place 2.3.1942. Banckert 2.3.1942 was scuttled at Sourabaya; she was salvaged by Japanese, commissioned by IJN 20.4.1944 as patrol No.106. In August, 1945 she was returned to the Netherlands, but never commissioned again and sunk as a target in September, 1949.
