Project history: Steel-hulled gunboats with ram bow, two masts, one funnel and raised forecastle and poop. 102mm guns were fore and aft, 2 57mm guns were in casemates abreast the bridge, other four in sponsons amidships.

Naval service: Tampico was sunk by Mexican cruiser-transport Vincente Guerrero 16.7.1914.
