Project history: Lürssen modified FPB57 design, ordered in 1980. Intended to become leaders for six TNC45 type boats.

Modernizations: 2005, Istiqlal: - 9LV200 radar, Matilda ECM suite; + Sea Giraffe 50HC radar, Cygnus ECM suite, 9LV228 CCS

Naval service: Istiqlal escaped to Bahrain in 1990 upon Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Sabhan was captured 2.8.1990, taken over by Iraqi Navy but was sunk in February 1991 during Allied attack to Iraq.
