Project history: Former USN Tacoma class frigates modelled on the British 'River' class. These ships were amongst the twenty-eight ships of this class transferred to USSR during summer 1945. Survivors were returned to US Navy in Japan in 1949. First large ships loaned to Korean Navy. Two more, ex-Pasco and Gloucester, were towed from storage in Japan to Korea for spare parts cannibalization in January 1969.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: Amnokgang 21.5.1952 was rammed amidships by escorted US ammunition ship Mount Baker. She was returned to USN for disposal beyond economical repair.
