Project history: Maru-Yu series of IJA. These boats were built by request and on means from the budget of Imperial Japanese Army. Design was developed by army officers.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: YU1 was lost in 1943, fate of YU2-9 and 11 is unknown. YU10 and 12 were handed over on demolition in 1947.
