Project history: Vickers C(2) type. Built in Britain by Vickers and assembled in Japan from sections. The same type as British C type. Single-hulled. Japanese did not have experience of designing of modern submarines, and it was necessary to be content with already hopelessly out-of-date design.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
