Project history: Copy of RN "C" class submarines. Single-hulled, ordered under the 1907 programme. Japanese did not have experience of designing of modern submarines, and it was necessary to be content with already hopelessly out-of-date design.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
