Project history: Ko-Gata A2 type. Built under War programme of 1941. Development of Ko-Gata A1 type, but with decreased engine power and lower speed: at the expense of that endurance has been significantly increased. In remaining she differed from a prototype a little.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: I12 after 15.1.1945 was lost in central Pacific.
