Project history: Built under 2nd Supplementary programme of 1934. In the design assignment the requirement to create smaller, comparing with Ch1 class, chaser, but not yielding to latter on efficiency, was put. One of ships (Ch53) as experiment received steam turbine propelling plant. Series has appeared unsuccessful, chasers were distinguished by bad manoeuvrability (designers corrected this lack only after aft end reconstruction and redesigning of a rudder).

Modernizations: 1943: DC stowage was increased to 20 - 30.

Naval service: In May, 1943 Ch53 was re-rated to auxiliary submarine chaser Cha253 and in 1944 converted to tug.
