Project history: Built under 1st Supplementary programme of 1931. Modified design of the W5 class. Dimensions and engine power were a little decreased, number of boilers was shrank from three to two. In 1935 after incident with Tomozuru ships have passed modernization for improvement of stability and hull longitudinal strength raise. Sizes of superstructure were decreased, as well as funnel height. Solid ballast was laid, displacement has raised from 500/551 to 691/787t, and maximal speed has decreased from 20 to 18kts.
Modernizations: 1935, all: solid ballast was added, superstructures were reconstructed, displacement was 691/800 (normal)t, maximal speed decreased to 18kts.
1944, 15-go: - 1 x 1 - 120/45, 2 x 1 - 13.2/76, minesweeping gear; + 1 x 2 - 25/60 96-shiki, 3 x 1 - 25/60 96-shiki, 2 DCT (36), 3-shiki 1-go radar, 93-shiki hydrophone
Naval service: W13 and W14 were sunk 12.1.1942 at Tarakan by gunfire of Dutch coastal battery. W16 was lost 11.9.1943 on a mine at Celebes. W15 was hard damaged 5.3.1945 at Kyushu by a torpedo from US submarine Tilefish and ran aground.
