Project history: A revised version of the Hatsushima class, lengthened primarily to permit two-high rather than three-high bunking for enlisted personnel. Were to have been of GRP construction but are built of wood.

Modernizations: 2010, Ieshima; 2013, Maeshima; 2014, Kumejima; 2017, Yugeshima; 2018, Nagashima: + SAM-type minesweeping drone control equipment

Naval service: No significant events.
