Project history: Built under the 1927 programme. Development of Shirataka. First Japanese all-welded warship. Besides mines, could carry antisubmarine nets.

Modernizations: 1943 - 1944: - mine capacity; + 4 DCT (36), 93-shiki hydrophone

Naval service: 1.2.1942 Yaeyama was damaged in Subik Bay (Philippines) by US MTB ÐÒ32, sunk 24.9.1944 at US by American carrier aircraft.
