Project history: Aircraft bombing target ships, built under 1942 additional War programme. 5 ships were planned (Nos5411-5415) but building of Nos5412-5415 (Yagoshi, Anori, Obatake) was cancelled in 1944 and laid down ships were converted while building to escorts in cause of shortage of escorts and ASW ships. Works on Osashi were suspended in June, 1945, when ship was 95% complete, she was foundered 6.3.1946 as result of leaks in Yokohama harbour.

 

Ship protection: deck and superstructures had horizontal 16 - 22 mm armour.

 

Modernizations: None.

 

Naval service: Ohama was sunk 10.8.1945 in Onagawa area by US and British carrier aircraft.
