Project history: Simplified and moderated variant of Ukuru class escorts. As well as on Ukuru, application of curved surfaces has been brought to a minimum at hull forming, funnel was fulfilled by the hexagon. At hull manufacturing welding was widely applied. Building terms were from three to eight months. They have appeared overloaded at fore end, in 1945 for elimination of this lack solid ballast was laid at aft end. Unlike the predecessors, new escorts of C class did not receive names and had numbers, only odd.

Under the programme of 1943/1944 132 ships were ordered (1-263-go, only odd), really works were conducted only on 65 escorts, orders for the remaining CD91 (hull No2246), 99 (No2250), 103 (No2252), 111, 113, 115(Nos2256-2258), 119-203 (only odd, Nos2460-2502), 209(2505), 211(2506), 231(2516), 233(2517), 237-263(2519-2532) were cancelled in August, 1944. Unnumbered contracts for further 168 planned ships were not placed.

    Modernizations: 1944-1945, some survived: + 3-shiki 1-go radar

early 1945, all survived earlier ships: + 6 x 1 - 25/60 96-shiki

mid-1945, most survived earlier ships: - 2 x 1 - 25/60; + 2 x 2 - 25/60 96-shiki
