Project history: An improved and slightly enlarged Ishikari, with improved accommodation and increased fuel capacity. The second ship was ordered under the FYB0-81 programme, but no further ships appeared. Phalanx CIWS was part of the original design, but was never fitted.
Modernizations: late 1990s, both: - 2 Harpoon SSM (totally 1 x 4 + 1 x 2)
Naval service: No significant events.
