Project history: First oceangoing destroyers of new generation, are built under FY1907 Programme. Building was delayed because of a delay with delivery of turbines made by Mitsubishi under Parsons license. At the moment of designing they were one of the strongest in the world, however have appeared too expensive for large series.

Modernizations: 1930, both: were converted to minesweepers. They were fully rearmed with 1 x 1 - 120/40 41-shiki, 4 x 1 - 76/40 3-shiki, mechanical minesweeping gear. A half of boilers was removed, engine power fell to 11000hp and maximal speed to 24kts.

Naval service: In the First World War beginning both destroyers participated in chase for Spee squadron.
