Project history: The Takatsuki class have a typical 'American' appearance because of their 127mm guns and ASROC. The ships were designed for the US ASW DASH system, which proved to be unsuccessful and was removed in 1977. Mochizuki and Nagatsuki have a knuckle in the hull sides forward. Kikuzuki is the only unit fitted with fin stabilizers. All units were fitted with gravity davits and telescopic high-line equipment.
