Project history: Russian Varyag, sank in shallow water 9.2.1905 after hits from Japanese cruisers off Inchon, Korea. She was raised 8.8.1905, repaired at Yokosuka NYd and became training ship.

Ship protection: Protective deck had 38mm flat and 76mm slopes. Ammunition hoists had 38mm protection, CT had up to 152mm sides.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: In March 1916 Soya was sold and 5.4.1916 transferred to Russia as Variag.
