Project history: Put in the FY 88 budget for service in the Yokosuka area as a result of the poor performance of earlier 23m-series patrol craft during the rescue efforts after the collision of the submarine Nadashio with a fishing boat. Have a longer hull and greater propeller tip clearance to reduce pitching. Are painted white.
