Project history: Authorized under the 1954 programme. This class was fitted with an improved sonar dome which offered less resistance at high speed than the type used in the Type 1. From January 1968 until December 1972, No 7wasfiatifl with an Ishikawajima-Harima T64 marine gas turbine for test purposes. Bagfl units were deleted in 1973.
Modernizations: 1.1968, 7-go: one diesel was replaced by Ishikawajima-Harima T64 gas turbine.
Naval service: No significant events.
