Project history: The former Russian battleships Peresvet and Pobeda captured at Port Arthur 2.1.1905. They were repaired, renamed respectively as Sagami and Suwo and commissioned in 1908 as 1st class coast defence ships.
Ship protection: Main belt was 95.1m long and 2.4m high. Its thickness was 229-178mm tapering to 127mm at lower edge. Upper belt extended to upper deck was 57.3m long. Both belts were closed by 102mm bulkheads. Ends of casemates also were closed by 102mm transverse bulkheads. Main deck has 64-51mm thickness within citadel and 76mm at ship ends.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: Suwo from 28.9.1914 till 1.11.1914 actively participated in bombardment of coast positions of Germans in Tsingtao. In 1916 Sagami was sold to Russia, reclassified as an armoured cruiser and again renamed Peresvet. Suwo was used as TS till April, 1922; then she was disarmed and converted into a hulk. Suwo was broken up in 1946.
