Project history: Special survey vessel intended for operations in areas of enemy force presence. Built under 3rd Supplementary program of 1937. Another vessel of this class (No847) was never ordered. Usually E14Y seaplane was based onboard.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Tsukushi was sunk by mine 4.11.1943 off New Ireland.
