Project history: River gunboat Toba was intended for service on Chinese rivers. Toba was built under the 1910 Estimates.

Modernizations: 1935: - 2 x 1 - 76/40; + 2 x 1 - 76/40 11-shiki

1940: - 6 x 1 - 6.5/115; + 3 x 1 - 25/60 96-shiki, 1 x 1 - 13.2/76

1945: disarmed

Naval service: In 1945 gunboat transferred their guns to coastal batteries.

In August, 1945 China captured Toba at Shanghai.
