Project history: Gunboat for service in Chinese waters. Design was developed on the basis of 1st class gunboat Uji. In comparison with prototype, dimensions were increased and armament was strengthened. Saga was differed by unusual triple-shaft machinery.

Modernizations: 1941: - 3 x 1 - 76/40, 3 x 1 - 6.5/115; + 3 x 1 - 76/40 11-shiki, 6 x 1 - 7.7/80

Naval service: Saga 26.9.1944 off Hong Kong was damaged on a mine, 22.1.1945 she was sunk at Hong Kong by US Army aircraft.
