Project history: Built under 1941 War Programme, served as fast fleet tanker and seaplane carrier. Second ship, No307, was cancelled. Building of 7 modified ships of Tamano class (Tamano, Shiomi, Takahama, Oshu, Uma, Ryumai, Shiose; 15600/17500t, 17kts, 2x2-127/40, 14 seaplanes) never started.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Hayasui was sunk by American submarine Bluefish 19.8.1944 80nm NW of Cape Bolinao, Luzon.
