Project history: 1-go was delivered in 1940 with 2 main engines (2 x 1150 hp) and 2 cruising Alfa Romeo engines (2 x 100 hp) reaching 50 kts. Main engines power was de-rated and cruising engines removed after trials before commissioning in 1941. Armament before commissioning consisted of 1 MG and 2 TT. Had wooden hull with planning step.  First Japanese MGB.

Design of H2 type was developed on the basis of Italian-built patrol boat 1-go. Steel hull form was changed from planning step to V-shaped. Unlike a prototype, they had no auxiliary cruising engines.

Since 1945 survived boats received torpedo armament and re-rated to MTBs (Raitei).

Modernizations: 1945, most survived: were armed with 1 x 1 - 25/60 96-shiki or 1 x 1 - 13.2/76, 2 - 450 TT.
