Project history: 1st class gunboat, classified earlier as unarmoured cruiser and dispatch vessel, built under Post-war program of 1896-1897.

Modernizations: 1902 - 1903: - 1 - 450 TT

Naval service: In 1927 Chihaya became TS at Etajima, in 1939 she was converted to a hulk and handed over on demolition in August 1945.
