Complement

 

 

Project history: Design was developed on the basis of auxiliary chaser of Cha1 class. Intended for escorting of convoys in inshore area. In addition to regular armament (2 25mm and 3 13.2mm MGs, 8 DC) they can also carry 2 bow TTs. Really TTs were never installed and boats of class were commissioned with strengthened AA armament.

    In July, 1945 23 more boats (Nos between 2121 and 2320) were built in sections, contract was cancelled 2.7.1945. Further 120 boats of this class were cancelled in 1945 and 80 boats (Nos 2321-2400) were never ordered.

 

Modernizations: 1948, MSDF minesweepers were rearmed with 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, 6 x 1 - 25/60 96-shiki, mechanical minesweeping gear

Naval service: Pa173 was mined 29.3.1945 in Wakamatsu harbour, salvaged but never repaired. Pa164 was wrecked 30.5.1945 off Kyushu. Pa177 and Pa178 were destroyed 4.7.1945 during completion at Tokushima by US Army aircraft. Pa37 and Pa110 were sunk 18.7.1945 by US aircraft at Yokosuka, Pa122 was badly damaged this time and sank later. Pa90 was lost by unknown cause off Sakata in August-September, 1945. Pa54, Pa165 and Pa180 were foundered in August, 1945 in Yokosuka as result of leaks. Pa166 was sunk off Urasaki 12.8.1945 by US aircraft. Pa163 was mined 22.8.1945 in Nano Bay. Incomplete Pa193 was destroyed by storm 18.9.1945 at Fukuoka, boat was never completed. Pa25 was lost in storm 19.9.1945 at Shimonoseki. Pa111 foundered after war late 1945. Pa137 and Pa176 ran aground and sank off Shimonoseki 18.4.1946. MS27 (ex-Pa154) was mined 23.5.1949 near Manju (off Shimonoseki). MS30 (ex-Pa191) wrecked 27.10.1950 off Koriyama. MS28 (ex-Pa175) wrecked off Suzaki (Shizuoka prefecture) 30.10.1950.
