Project history: Repetition of Archimede class. Partially double-hulled. Differed from a prototype by hardly more powerful diesels and larger CT, similar to applied on Foca class, with 100mm/43 gun installed on it.

Building of two last boats of this class, Archimede and Toricelli, was conducted as fiduciary to hide the fact of transfer of two submarines with the same names to Franco.

In 1941-1942 on Brin, Archimede and, probably, Guiglemotti, the gun was moved from CT on deck fwd from it.
