Project history: Medium submarines of so-called 600t class, most numerous in Italian Navy. The design was developed on the basis of Squalo class. Single-hulled with external bulges.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Argonauta was sunk 28.6.1940 at Sicily by British aircraft. Salpa was sunk 27.6.1941 in Mediterranean by British submarine Triumph. Jantina was sunk 5.7.1941 in Aegean sea by British submarine Torbay. Fisalia was sunk 28.9.1941 near Yaffa by DCs of British corvette Hyacinth. Medusa was sunk 30.1.1942 in Adriatic sea by British submarine Thorn. Serpente was scuttled by crew 12.9.1943 near Ancona.
