Project history: A little increased version of Settembrini class with larger fuel stowage and strengthened armament (second main gun was added, the number of spare torpedoes was increased). Partially double-hulled.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Galileo Ferraris was sunk 25.10.1941 in Atlantic E off Madeira by British aircraft and escort destroyer Lamerton. Galileo Galilei was captured 19.6.1940 in Red sea by British armed trawler Moonstone after submarine crew has poisoned with the gases arriving from ventilating system. She was later commissioned by Royal Navy as X2.
