Project history: Development of Carlo Mirabello. In 1917 5 ships were ordered, however because of shortage of materials building has not been begun. In 1920 three ships were repeatedly ordered, but already under the modified design. The number of main guns remained the same, and calibre was raised to 120mm. Guns were placed in twin mounts at centre line, also as triple 450mm TTs. Also two 76mm AA guns were installed.
Two more ships, Leopardo and Lince, were cancelled in October, 1920.
In 1936 already considered become outdated leaders are arranged for colonial service in Red sea, the fuel stowage was slightly increased and 76mm guns were removed. In 1938 they were re-rated from scouts to destroyers.

Naval service: Leone 1.4.1941 ran to an uncharted rock in Red sea and was lost.
Pantere and Tigre were scuttled at night with 3-4.4.1940 on shallow water at shores of Saudi Arabia. Wrecks were destroyed by British aircraft and gunfire of British destroyer Kingston.
