Project history: Last representatives of Indomito family. Almost exact repetition of La Masa class, but with moderated to three number of 102mm guns arranged at centre line.

In 1929 they were re-rated as torpedo boats.

Modernizations: 1936, all: + mechanical minesweeping gear

1939, all: - 2 x 1 - 76/40; + 2 x 2 - 20 Breda 1935, (2 - 4) x 1 - 8.80

Naval service: Generale Antonio Chinotto 28.3.1941 was sunk on mine laid by British submarine Rorqual off Palermo. Generale Antonio Cantore 22.8.1942 was lost on a mine laid by British submarine Porpoise at coast of Cyrenaica. Generale Marcello Prestinari 31.1.1943 was lost on a mine laid by British minelayer Welshman in Sicilian channel. Generale Antonio Cascino 9.9.1943 was scuttled by crew at La Spezia. Generale Carlo Montanari 9.9.1943 was scuttled by crew at La Spezia, salvaged by Germans but never commissioned by them and 4.10.1944 sunk by Allied aircraft at La Spezia. Generale Achille Papa 9.9.1943 was scuttled by crew at Genoa, salvaged by Germans, originally called TA7, subsequently renamed SG20 but never commissioned by them.
