Project history: Officially described as torpediniere-avvisos, these vessels were designed by Gen Insp Benedetto Brin and were steel-hulled, with engines by Hawthorn Leslie and Co.
Modernizations: 1897, Saetta: - 3 x 1 - 37/25, 3 x 1 - 350 TT; + 1 x 1 - 76/40 A, 2 x 1 - 57/40 H, 2 x 1 - 47/40 H, 1 x 5 - 37/20 H corto
Naval service: Folgore was damaged in a collision with cruiser Giovanni Bausan off Capri on 5.7.89 and was consequently put in reserve and, never again reaching her original efficiency, was discarded. Saetta was used for experiments with oil fuel in 1892; in 1897-1900 she was a torpedo TS. In 1901 she became a TS for gunners, and in 1902 mounted a number of different light guns.
