Project history: Although initially described as 'Improved Impavidos', these ships showed little resemblance to their predecessors. They incorporated the new SADOC computer combat direction system, which enormously increased their capability, and a large helicopter hangar aft (for two AB-212 or one SH-3D). The gun battery consisted of the new Italian-made lightweight 127mm/54 and the new Compact 76mm/62 The four tubes for 533mm wire-guided torpedoes tired aft over the stern.
