Project history: Ordered in 1913 by Romania, but requisitioned after joining of Italy into war in June 1915 as scouts. They were one of the strongest destroyers in the world. On trials all have exceeded designed speed: Aquila has shown 36.4kts, Falco 35.2kts, Nibbio 37.4kts, Sparviero 38.04kts. It was originally supposed to arm these ships with 120mm artillery, but shortage of light cruisers has forced to install old 152mm guns on first 3 ships. However, those have appeared too heavy for destroyers, and last ship, Falco, received 120mm/45 guns.

Naval service: Aquila and Falco were reclassified as destroyers in September 1938. They were transferred to Spain officially only 6 January 1939.
