Project history: Built under British design. Successful ships with good seaworthiness for their dimensions. Alcione, Airone and Arpia in 1915-1917 were converted to fast minesweepers.
Modernizations: 1910 - 1913, Airone, Alcione, Ardea: were converted to oil burners.
1916 - 1918, all: - 3 x 1 - 47/53, 1 x 1 - 450 TT; + 1 x 1 - 76/40 A1916, 1 x 1 - 76/30 A1914, 1 x 1 - 13.2/76
1917, Alcione, Arpia; 1918, Airone: were converted to fast minesweepers: - 1 x 1 - 76/30; + mechanical minesweeping gear
Naval service: Arpia was sunk 17.1.1918 from collision with a wreck, later salvaged and 25.7.1918 commissioned again.
