Project history: Designed by Philip Watts, Piemonte was the first warship in the world armed exclusively with QF guns. Her armament proved too heavy, however, so her 152mm guns were first reduced in number and then removed. She was well protected but had no double bottom, and watertight bulkheads were not fitted in the boiler rooms and in the crank-pits.
Ship protection: Protective deck had 76mm flat and 76mm slopes, 152mm guns had 114mm shields.
Modernizations: 1891: - 4 x 1 - 152/40; + 4 x 1 - 120/40 A
1913: - 2 x 1 - 152/40, 4 x 1 - 57/40, 4 x 1 - 37/20
Naval service: No significant events.
