Project history: Ordered by Russia in Germany as Muravyov-Amurskiy, confiscated by Germany after the beginning of the First World War and renamed Pillau. She was transferred to Italy 20.7.1920 by reparations and commissioned in 1924 and served as TS. In 1934-1935 Bari was passed conversion to "colonial" cruiser at La Spezia. By spring 1943 there was begun conversion of Bari to AA ship (she should carry 8 single 90mm/50, 8 37mm/54 and 8 20mm/70 guns).
Ship protection: Main deck (80mm thick amidships and 20mm at ship ends) had 40mm slopes. CT had 75mm sides and 50mm roof.
Modernizations: (1921 - 1923): - 2 x 1 - 88/42; + 3 x 1 - 76/40 Ansaldo 1917
(1934 - 1935): 6 coal fore boilers and fore funnel were removed (21000hp, 24.5kts), oil fuel stowage was greatly increased, endurance was 4000(14)nm; - 2 x 1 - 500 TT; + 3 x 2 - 20/65 Breda 1935, 3 x 2 - 13.2/76, displacement was 3248 / 5220 t.
1940 - 1941: + 6 x 1 - 20/65 Breda 1940
Naval service: Bari was severely damaged by American aircraft 28.6.1943 at Leghorn and sank in shallow water two days later. Salvage works were stopped after September, 1943. Wreck was again damaged 8.9.1943 by Italians to avoid capture and partially BU by Germans in 1944.
