Project history: Ex-German cruiser taken over by reparations and commissioned by navy 6.5.1925.
Ship protection: 60mm belt protected machinery and magazines (about 80% of ship length), its thickness decreased to 18mm at fwd part, there was 40mm transverse bulkhead between 60mm and 18mm parts of the belt, aft part of waterline was unprotected. 40-20mm armour deck was connected with lower edge of the belt by 60-40mm slopes. Guns were protected by 50mm shields, ammo tubes had 20mm armour.
Modernizations:
(1921 - 1924, Arsenale di Taranto): max fuel stowage was increased to 900 t of coal and 1520 t of oil; - 2 x 1 - 88/42, 2 - 500 TT sub; + 3 x 1 - 76/40 Ansaldo 1917, 3 x 1 - 6.5/80, 2 x 1 - 500 TT1926: + 1 seaplane (M.7)
1929: + 1 catapult
